A Lexington Anniversary Party

A couple weeks ago I had the privilege of photographing a 65th wedding anniversary party for the Blake family.  The family asked me take some family portraits as well as a few candids of the party which was held at the Hilary J. Boone Center.  It was my pleasure!  I had a lot fun with the family and was inspired by all the married couples in the room, especially the one being celebrated!  There was a lot of love in the room! Thank you Susan!  You have a beautiful family!

Headshots: Lexington and Louisville Corporate Photography

I have had the pleasure of working with a few of Lexington's (and Louisville's) finest businessmen and women over the past month.  I spend the majority of my time thinking about poses, weddings, and lighting so it is nice to get outside the office and spend time with other professionals.  I am always inspired by others who excel in professional fields that I should never step foot near (like CPAs).  Thanks to Carmel at State Farm Insurance; Barr, Anderson, and Roberts, PSC; and Doug Taylor.  I hope your businesses benefit from these headshots!

Whitney and Mike at Champs and Keeneland: Lexington Engagement Shoot

They first met nearly 25 years ago.  Twenty five years ago at Champs roller rink.  He was working and she was skating.  I imagine their first conversation was amidst flashing beams of neon lights and perhaps a little smoke machine action.  We mustn't forget the disco ball. The sounds of the slushy machine and nachos being crushed under roller skates are in the background...and probably a Journey song.  If I was there, I'd have been crashing into the bench along the wall and trying to laugh it off, thankful for dim lighting. Then life happened and Mike and Whitney grew up and lived separate lives.  Until they re-connected a couple years ago.  Where was the reunion?  Champs!  Talk about a long time coming love story.  Now, they are separated again.  Mike has moved to Arizona with the Army and Whitney stayed here for work, wedding planning and her daughter's school.  Their June wedding cannot come fast enough!

Whitney and Mike, we are thinking of you and thank you for this unique and incredibly fun engagement shoot.  We can't wait for June.

Whitney looks AWESOME in front of the camera.  Even when she is playing a Nascar video game.

This one below is my fav.

Who says the roller rink isn't romantic?

Two kids, waiting for a good song.  I like how their feet are pointed in the same direction.

On to Keeneland.

Oh Whitney.  You look gorgeous!

Still looking fabulous.  Mike, you aren't looking too bad yourself.

Katie and Tyler: Lexington Engagement Photos

Hi there.  I am coming off a very busy Saturday and a very lazy Sunday which equals (for me) a frantic Monday.  Saturday we hosted our first photography workshop, Mary's 101.  It went better than I expected!  I was afraid I'd be nervous and completely awkward as I taught.  I was at first.  Then I settled in and went into "I'm a photo nerd and I love talking about this stuff" mode and everything was splendid as I was in my element.  I covered everything from history to camera modes to lighting and posing for beginner photogs.  We are hoping to have another workshop later this year.  Let me know if you are interested!  After the workshop I headed to my good friend Michelle's birthday party.  We painted pots and ate a delicious dinner together.  One might think I would be good at painting something creative on a smallish herb pot.  I stenciled. After this fun filled Saturday, we rested yesterday.  We watched The Fighter and it was excellent.  I laughed a lot during it actually.  The dialogue was hilarious!  The characters were awesome too.

Which leads to today.  I love Mondays.  Most people don't.  I also love rainy days.  Usually, Mondays are a relaxed work day for me.  The week is so hopeful even though the to-do list is quite long.  I go to the gym, sit at the desk, drink coffee, answer emails, blog.  Today seemed frantic though because of the extra long list and because this week is shorter than normal.  I am headed to Ohio tomorrow to see the lovely and talented Jasmine Star speak.  So I've been in go-mode all afternoon.  And now the day ends with a "spill it" blog post.

The best part of the day?  Eating lunch with my sister and making dinner with Gabe.

Below are the rest of Katie and Tyler's engagement pictures.  I used to work with Katie's mom at school and that is how I met her family.  We love Tyler and Katie.  We walked all around downtown and just laughed and talked.  I'd see a spot for photos and we'd have to pause our fun conversation to take their pictures, which we laughed through most of them.  Thanks you all!  You are sweet couple are we walked away from the shoot thinking, "These two are meant for each other!"

My favorite is above!

Loved their coordination.

My angle.

Gabe's angle.

A Roller Rink and The Big City: Two Lexington Engagement Shoots

Happy Friday!  I have finally finished all of Mary's 101 prep.  PowerPoint and I are BFFs at the moment.  I am really pleased with the way it turned out.  We have a lot of fun tips and pictures share with everyone tomorrow.  It is so exciting that this workshop has materialized.  I have wanted to teach again for awhile so this dream has been a couple years in the making! Before the day is through, I want to post a couple photos from this week's engagement shoots.  We had two.  And here they are:

Mike and Whitney are a fun and lovely couple.  They are naturals in front of the camera.  I think it helps that they are so in love.  Big bonus with this shoot: half of it was at Champs!  More details on their story later.  But for now, the teasers!  And yes, there will be skating pictures next week!

Katie and Tyler are up next.  We felt like we were just walking around with good friends during this shoot.  Katie and I know each other for a couple years and I am very glad she wanted me to shoot her wedding.  We had a lot of fun with you guys!  You are too cute for words so I'll just go ahead and post your photos.
